This simple but atmospheric landscape was inspired by the South Island of New Zealand - one of my favourite places on Earth. It is not a painting of a particular place, but my impressions and my memories of the many stunning spots I have visited over the years... I am using just a handful of colours here, Indigo being the main one - it is a fantastic colour to have on your palette as it creates a great range of tonal values - very rich darks to light and delicate washes.
